On Saturday night, I had the great
honour of being invited to judge Miss Transsexual. I guess it is
nothing new to me to have friends that are gay, transsexual or let me
say, who ever they choose to be. My husband keeps on reminding me
that out of my bubble world there are prejudice and haters on a new
level.
I must admit, I do not go to see beauty
pageants, but when I see beauty I know it. Miss Gay and Miss
Transsexual gave me an insight into the world of beauty and what it
is like to live with ideals of a world that only sees a way you have
to be. There were many components to this competition including
'Goddess Wear', Sexy wear (lingerie/bikini) and evening gown.
Probably the most defining part of the evening was hearing about the
struggles of people in the question and answer round.
To deal with the pre conception that we
have to live a certain way and to make others happy when we are
hurting no one is a very sad place indeed. The Miss Gay and
Transsexual Pageant is to bring awareness to Australia about a group
of very beautiful people. Not just on the outside but the inside as
well. There should not be remarks in public or scrutiny over who
people want to be, just let people be who they want to be.
As I was taking my seat to judges, one
gentleman or Yobbo decided to ask me, “Are you a man or a woman?”
As I choose to be dignified and respect
all in my presence, I introduced myself as Anna, I then said “This
is probably the most inappropriate place to ask someone that and I
will not answer it.”
I do not find this insulting that
someone could not tell the difference, I was insulted for all the
guests and competitors as everyone welcoming this pageant and
attending should have been mindful of what a hurtful remark that is.
I thank all the competitors for
allowing me to judge you in a world I did not know, but now I have
made great friends. All the competitors were gracious, dignified and
classy, the judging was close and really came down to the Q & A.
Please, when you don't know about
something, instead of being scared of it and coming to a preconceived
idea. You can ask questions and attend an event like this. If it is
not your thing, just leave it alone and respect that others have
chosen a different path. That is it, everyone is different and has
that right.
Thank you all and have a look at these
beauties and what they stand for, be proud ladies! We all have the
right to feel beautiful in our own skin.
