Heading to Regional Towns in Australia
one thing is for sure that you always encounter friendly smiles, a
sense of no hurry and the most traffic is the main street that is 3
minutes from one end to the other.
When the races and Fashions on the
Field are run in these areas they are done so by locals and lovers of
the races and fashion. Coming into Bundaberg reminded of one of my
favourite times away in Grafton where I have affectionately become a
bit of a come in and out local, as the 'Real Housewives' of Northern
Rivers adopted me.
With a fabulous name like that you have
to also have wonderful accommodation and that I did. It was run by
Tina Turner. I was a fan, although she did keep her singing voice
for her black poodle puppy who I fell in love with and was tempted to
put in my luggage back to Melbourne.
When coming into these rural
communities, I love to walk around see local shops and meet the
people who make the town and dedicate themselves to community.
This may tempt you to ask, “What do I
look for in Fashions on the Field in these towns?”
Good Question, I am glad you asked.
Especially coming into Bundaberg being
mindful of the horrific flooding they had endured, it is all about
local and community and bringing a feeling of being together for a
great day. I am not looking for the most impressive outfit that Jen
Hawkins wore on the cover of a magazine, nor do I compare to what I
see in Melbourne or other Cities. I look for what is in the town in
the way of shops and what is available, as department stores are not
always accessible.
It is looking at the whole picture of
the lady or gentleman, seeing that they are comfortable and happy in
their outfit, hat and own skin. This is an ease that I can see very
easily and I think interstate country towns capture beautifully. The
closer I get to Queensland the more colourful the outfits and must be
the sunshine that takes away the nerves and brings on the smiles.
I look for ladies who will have a go,
and they are usually the ladies I will tag with rosettes, they may
not even be entrants of Fashions on the Field, but they are there at
the races looking and feeling fantastic.
I have left my beautiful family in the
heat of Melbourne for the cool of Bundaberg in Queensland. Tomorrow
I cannot wait to meet the ladies and gentlemen of the town and look
at horses and see the fashions that make Australian country towns so
wonderful.
Dare to dress to impress and when I say
that, be impressed with what you see in the mirror. Enjoy wearing a
hat and you will need it for the sun. Keep smiling, have a punt and
enjoy a day in the sunshine with the rest of your town. There is
always something to talk about at the races and coming together and
making new friends for fashion, horses or hats, it is a great day
out. See you there. x
